Softballs
If you need softballs, please send and e-mail to Dan Tingler.

Tournament Results
The results from the soggy weekend have been posted.  Thanks for everyone's flexibility after the short-lived thunderstorm band early Saturday evening.  The Men's B tournament schedule has been modified to push the schedule back 1 day.   So, the tournament will start on Friday, June 17 and conclude on Saturday, June 25 (rain permitting).

Sportsmanship Awards
Please contact Dan Tingler with your vote for the Sportsmanship in your regular season division.

Fall Softball
The Spring wrap-up / Fall coach's meeting will be schedule for early July.  Because of the uncertain nature of the conclusion of the Spring season, it will not be possible to start Monday-night wood-bat softball as early as normal.  So, the current plan is to begin Monday night wood-bat softball and weekend Co-Ed softball in the first week of August.  Look for a separate e-mail announcement later this week regarding the coach's meeting and Fall leagues.

Friday, June 3, 2011

Over the course of the week, the BAU has been notified of several minor issues with the tournament brackets.  None are significant changes.  However, if you notice an error in the brackets please first check the latest published schedule to see if it has already been corrected.  After verifying the issue exists in the current version please make Dan Tingler aware of the issue.

For example, on Men's A, B and C schedules Game 6 is between the loser of Games 2 and 3.  Because all schedules were essentially copied from a single template, they all had the same mistake and noted Loser Game 5 instead Game 2.  So, all schedules now reflect the proper pairing.

Thanks for everyone who has taken the opportunity to review the schedules and provide feedback.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

The tournament brackets have been published for all adult divisions.

The Men's league was broken down into four playoff divisions based on the results through roughly 9-10 games for each team.  Every effort was taken to ensure the most balanced level of competitiveness possible within the field and time scheduling constraints.  Essentially, the men's B divisions were "rearranged" so that the best 6 records form the A tournament bracket and the next-best 6 records form the "B" bracket.  The remaining two B teams were then combined with the best 4 C teams to form the "C" bracket.  Finally the remaining 5 teams will compete in the "D" bracket.  In most cases the entire bracket is separated by only 2 Wins top to bottom which should yield the most fair playing field for tournament play.

Below are the playoff division assignments:

Men's A   Men's B   Men's C   Men's  D   Women
Living Waters         (8-1)   Lawndale Orange   (5-5)   Gate City                 (8-1)   Charity                     (5-3)   Hickory Grove   (11-1)
Sharpe Rd.               (8-2)   Lebanon 2                  (4-5)   Awestruck               (8-3)   Reedy Fork             (4-5)   Lawndale             (10-2)
Gospel Baptist 1    (7-2)   Lebanon 4                  (4-6)   Cornerstone 2       (7-3)   Crosspoint LC        (3-7)   Sharpe Rd             (6-6)
Life Community 1 (7-2)   Lawndale Red           (3-6)   Cornerstone 3       (7-4)   Life Community 2 (1-9)   Cornerstone         (6-6)
Lebanon 3                (7-3)   Lebanon 1                  (3-7)   Gospel Baptist 2  (2- 8)   Crosspoint GSO 2  (0-8)   Crosspoint LC  (1-10-1)
Cornerstone 1        (7-4)   Crosspoint GSO 1     (3-7)   New Bessemer    (0-10)       Awestruck        (1-10-1)

Tournament play will begin on Friday, June 10 for the Women, Saturday June 11 for the Men and conclude on June 24/25.  (Women will finish on June 18).

As always, inclement weather will mean changes.  In the event of rain-outs. please be prepared to play 5:00 games and potentially 3 games in a day.  The feedback we have consistently received is that we want to conclude prior to the end of June if at all possible.

Monday, April 25, 2011

All schedules have been update to reflect rain rescheduling.  Please take note of the new schedules.  The BAU board decided not to reschedule games on Memorial Day weekend.  However, if any more rainouts occur it is likely that one or both nights on that weekend will be used to makeup games.

Updated Schedules
New schedules have been published for all men's divisions.  These include adjustments for the rained-out games and the 2 men's C games postponed due to lights.  Some game times have changed in the last couple of weekends.  This was necessary in order to make room for the rain make-ups.  Two 5:00 Saturday games were added.  In the C division, some games move fields and in one instance 2 games were "traded" between the last two weekends.  SO, MAKE SURE YOU REVIEW THE NEW SCHEDULES AND INFORM YOUR TEAMS OF THE CHANGES!!!

The new schedules are color coded.  Yellow Highlights are the makeup games.  Green highlights are games that changed times from the original schedule.  Orange highlights are games that changed dates or fields.

Important Reminders
We have had a really great start to the season.  But, there are a few important issues that have arisen with coaches, umpires and spectators:

  1. Coaches - KNOW THE RULES!!!  Too many of you have no idea what the NSA rules prescribe or what the BAU Bylaws regulate.  The NSA Rulebook can be found on the NSA website here (http://www.playnsa.com/uploads/2011RuleBook11.pdf).  The BAU Bylaws can be found on this website here (http://www.bausoftball.com/docs/BAU_BY-LAWS2009.pdf).

    • Up the Middle RuleBylaw IV.N is very clear on this rule.  Read it and understand it.

    • Courtesy Runners: Bylaw IV.K gives the specific guidelines for courtesy runners.  Read it and Understand it.

    • Conduct Rules: Bylaw IV.A has a list of conduct rules. Please note that tobacco products are prohibited and will result in ejection and suspension.

  2. Umpires - See #1.  Please feel free to contact Dan Tingler if you need clarifications.

  3. Everyone -

    • Please keep your dugout, the playing area, the spectator area and the playground area clean.  There is way too much trash being left in the dugouts and on the ground.  This is true at all fields.

    • All fields are non-smoking facilities.  No smoking in the parking lot, stands, dugout or field.

    • Please monitor your children!!!  There are too many small (< 5 yrs old) children with no parents on the Gate City playground.  Children of that size can easily get hurt unless they are accompanied on the playground.

    • There are way too many rocks being thrown at Gate City.  The folks at Gate City took great pains to lay down a gravel walk to improve drainage and reduce sloppy, muddy travel to and from the parking lot.  Please respect their facility and the safety of other by reminding your children before they get to the field to avoid the temptation.

    • The "dirt pile" at Gate City is not a play area.  Please keep your children from climbing and playing on it.

New Youth schedule have been posted after some adjustments were made to accommodate new BYE requests.

Women's Schedules Updated
A pretty significant scheduling error has been corrected in the women's schedule.  It effects only two teams.  The 7:30 games on April 1 and April 8 were interchanged so that Sharpe Rd. plays on April 1 and Cornerstone plays on April 8.  This change was made because we inadvertently scheduled Cornerstone for a triple-header on April 1 and Sharpe Rd. had no game scheduled on April 1.  Thanks to those who pointed out the error.  Please make us aware of any other scheduling errors ASAP.

Softball Purchases
There are still a couple of churches that have not contacted anyone concerning softballs.  Please contact Dan Tingler if you need to purchase softballs.  Only balls purchased from the BAU are allowed in BAU play.  Softballs are $36 per dozen or $18 for 1/2 dozen.

Friday, March 18, 2011

All schedules have been posted (B1 updated 3/18 6:00 PM).  There was a higher than expected interest in Spring softball so the scheduling took some time.  The schedules are very full.  All effort was taken to honor requested BYE dates.  No new BYE dates can be considered as the scheduling process is complete.

Let us know A.S.A.P. if you see errors.

Reminders

  1. Church Sponsorship forms.  Be sure to get a member of your pastoral staff to sign the church sponsorship form and have it completed and turned in along with your rosters.

  2. Roster Due Date.  Rosters (and sponsorship forms) are due by Thursday, May 24 @ 5:00.  They can be scanned and e-mailed to chairman@bausoftball.com, turned in to Dan Tingler or faxed to Cornerstone Baptist (336-665-0801) to Dan's attention.  Make sure all of your players have signed the roster, any Supplementing Church Membership forms are filled out and signed for players from other churches you may want to count towards your 80% membership.

  3. Softballs.  Not everyone has ordered softballs.  The BAU Bylaws require that teams play with balls purchased from the BAU.  We're coming down to the wire.  So, if you paid for balls and haven't called OR if you haven't ordered balls, Dan Tingle will be practicing at Rankin Field tomorrow (March 19) from 9:00 - 12:00.  He will have the softballs with him.  If you miss Dan, Tom Pizarro will be at Rankin from 3:00 - 4:30 with the balls.  If you miss them tomorrow, contact Dan Tingler.  Balls are $36.00 per dozen.

  4. Youth Coaches.  Make sure you review the "competitive balance" rules that Dan e-mailed you last week.
