The Spring Season has concluded.  Thanks for all of you who participated and made it a successful and enjoyable season.  If you coached a Spring team and have not cast a vote for Sportsmanship award in your division, please send your vote to chairman@bausoftball.com.

Coach's Meeting
A coach's meeting will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Cornerstone Baptist. - 10:00 a.m.

  • The Spring awards (1st & 2nd reg season, 1st & 2nd Tournament, Sportsmanship) will be presented.  If you do not send a representative to get your award certificate, we will not hold it until next Spring.
  • We will accept feedback on the Spring season so we can make plans for any improvements for next Spring.
  • We will briefly go over Fall Co-Ed plans.  The coaches who attend the meeting will decide whether we will play Co-ed on Saturday or Friday evening.  Co-Ed rules can be found on the Bau website (www.bausoftball.com)
Fall Co-Ed
Co-Ed rules can be found on the BAU website (www.bausoftball.com)
  • Fall Co-Ed will begin play on the weekend of August 16.  Why so early?  (Actually this is technically a week later than last year) Because weather combined with Labor day will push us to play until (or after) Halloween!!!
  • All games will be played @ Gate City field
  • The fee for Fall co-ed is $260.00.  If there are 6 or more teams then a 10-game season will be scheduled, otherwise an 8-game season will be scheduled.
  • Fees will be due on July 31
  • Rosters will be due at the field for your first game
  • We are down to 6 dozen men's balls in our new supply.  We will not be ordering more men;s balls.  Depending on the number of co-ed teams we may restrict the number of balls for purchase to 1 dozen or less per team.
  • We have plenty of 11" women's balls (8 or 9 dozen)
Summer Wood Bat
Co-Ed rules can be found on the BAU website (www.bausoftball.com)
  • Wood Bat will begin play on Monday, July 12.
  • Fees are due on July 3.  Send checks payable to : BAU  4303 Filmore Rd, Greensboro, NC 27409
  • The Fee for wood Bat will be $260.00  If there are 6 or more teams then a 10-game season will be scheduled, otherwise an 8-game season will be scheduled.
  • Rosters will be due at the field for your first game
  • We are down to 6 dozen men's balls in our new supply.  So, balls will likely be supplied by the BAU from the gently used" stash of generous coaches.
  • Remember that we moved away from BAU-supplied bats last season.  So, you will need to supply your own bats.  If you need suggestions on where to order them - contact Tom Pizarro.

Weekend results have been posted.  Congratulations to Gospel Baptist for winning the regular season and tournament Men's C championships.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

Weekend results are posted.  One game time in Men's B1 changed due to Southeast being eliminated from the tournament (excessive forfeits).  Remember we do not play again until June 4/5.

The Men's B tournament brackets have been posted.  The BAU board has approved the separation and ranking of teams for the tournament.  We believe it represents the best opportunity for the most balanced competition during the playoffs.

Head-to-Head results (when available) were used to break ties for tournament rankings.  We used the overall records plus feedback from board members who actually play in the B divisions to determine the final breakdown.  Please, keep in mind that the difference between #4 and #5 is pretty unimportant since #4 plays #5 the first round of the tournament.  So, we didn't waste many brain cells trying to figure things out to that level.

All of that said, here are the tournament division breakdowns:

The weekend results have been posted.  We are still working on the Men's B Breakdown.  Tentatively, it appears that the top 3 teams from each division will be in the B1 bracket and the bottom three teams from each division will be in the B2 bracket.  The exact breakdown will be posted as soon as the board can review the results and the Chairman and Men's Director can approve the schedule.

Thursday, May 13, 2010

All tournament schedules have been posted.  The Men's C and Women's Tournament schedules are complete - meaning the teams have already been ranked and the schedule will not be affected by the games on 5/14 and 5/15.

The Men's B division brackets have been posted without team names.  This is because the Men's B divisions have a bunch of games being played on 5/14 and 5/15 - some between the B divisions.  After this weekend we will have a much clearer picture of the overall records.  At any rate, after this weekend's results are in, there will be some effort to determine if (and how many) teams should be "shuffled" for the Men's B playoffs to get the most level competition possible in the playoffs.  Although the overall records don't show it, it appears that most of the teams in each B division have been competing fairly well so it is difficult to determine if any movement is actually necessary.  But, after contacting the coaches and discussing it we are committed to a "best 6" and "next 6" approach to bracketing the playoffs for the B division.

Weekend results have been updated in the schedules and the standings have been posted.  Let us know A.S.A.P. if there are errors.

Please check back regularly for updates on the playoff brackets and schedules.  Women's and Men's C schedules will be posted this week.  Men's B schedules will be posted immediately after the results of this weekend's games (5/14-5/15) are concluded.  Regardless, as long as three are no rain-outs, all men's playoffs will begin on Saturday, May 22 and all teams will play at least once that day (games times starting @ 6:00).  So, make sure you make plans to play that day.  Men's C will play at Gate city.  Men's B will play at Revolution or Rankin, depending on how we re-shuffle for the playoffs.  Women's playoffs will be scheduled beginning on Friday, May 21 and play Friday-only.  We WILL NOT play on Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31).  We WILL NOT schedule around local graduations in early June.  We apologize for this but it is just not possible to appropriately plan around the myriad of local graduations.

All results, schedules and standings have been updated.  Please check them for accuracy and let us know A.S.A.P. if there is any problem.

We are nearing the end of the regular season.  The BAU board is in the process of reviewing the regular season men's results to ensure that the fairest possible tournament brackets are composed for the playoffs.  This likely means there will be adjustments for the playoffs which could result in teams being moved to a more appropriately competitive division for the playoffs.  If you have feedback to those regards, please contact Josh Younts (Men's director) or Tom Pizarro (Spring Chairman).

From a personal perspective, I believe this has been one of the most successful seasons in recent memory.  The generally good weather has been a big help.  However, the future for our league is uncertain as we have been really short on volunteers to serve on the BAU board and help organize Spring and Fall softball for several years.  For the better part of the past 12 years volunteers largely from Cornerstone, Lawndale, Lebanon and Living Waters have "fostered" the BAU and ensured that it stayed viable.  We were certainly excited to add representatives from Gosple Baptist and Sharpe Rd. in the past couple of seasons.  However, in two years, Josh and Terry will not  be able to manage all of this alone when the other existing members roll off.  Our goal has been to add three new members to the board each season to build the board back up to its full level of 12 members and restore the natural rotation schedule.  We have been disappointed each year by the lack of interest in serving on the BAU board even though there still seems to be steady interest in participation.  In fact, this season we actually added representation from three churches that have not been participating in men's softball.  So, there is plenty of reason to believe that there is renewed/growing interest a safe, fun, family-oriented and appropriately competitive softball league.

If you also believe that the season has been successful and you enjoy the option of a weekend, Christian-based softball league, maybe it is time that your church nominate someone to represent you on the BAU board to ensure that the BAU doesn't simply fade away.  We look forward to some fresh faces and some much-needed support...

All results, schedules and standings have been updated.  Please check them for accuracy and let us know A.S.A.P. if there is any problem.

Saturday, April 24, 2010

With regards to the pending rain/storms:  All decisions will be made "at the field" by the umpire.  If you have a later game it may be wise to send someone to your field for the earlier games to to see if they get cancelled.

BAU Coaches and players,

Please note that Gate City has posted NO Smoking signs around the field, in the playground area and in the picnic area.  Please notify your players and fans to refrain from smoking in the stands, playground or picnic/concessions area.

This is completely consistent with the environment maintained at our other locations.  The City of Greensboro enacted a no smoking policy at all of their fields five seasons ago.

In addition, the BAU Bylaws have prohibited all tobacco products from the field and dugout area for many years.

We appreciate you cooperation in this area.

Sincerely,
Tom Pizarro
2010 BAU Chairman

All results and standings have been updated.

Youth League
Please note the change in schedule for the final day in the tournament.  Lebanon is unable to play on May 8.  Since it is very likely they will be playing in game 7 or 8 we went ahead and rescheduled the last two (or three w/ rematch) games on May 15 to accommodate them.  HOWEVER, if there rain on April 24 or May 1 then games WILL be scheduled on MAY 8.

Sunday, April 11, 2010

The standings and results have been posted and updated in the on-line schedules.  Please notify your league's director of any errors A.S.A.P.

The coach's information will be posted (hopefully) by week's end.

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Well, whoever ordered up the sunny Spring weather forgot to pay the bill!!!   We made it through the first cold, rainy weekend successfully.  All seemed to go as smoothly as it has in recent memory.

We sold out of our current supply of the men's 12" balls.  More are on order and will be available before the next games.  Three are still plenty of women's 11" balls.

Updated results have been posted in the schedules and the standings have been updated as well.

Sunday, March 20, 2010

A minor schedule correction has been posted.  Games scheduled for Friday, May 21 were inadvertently left off of the individual Men's B2 schedule in PDF form and on the Men's B2 tab in the "All Schedules" spreadsheet.  The Men's B2 schedule has been re-posted.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

All schedules have been posted.  Please let us know if you see errors A.S.A.P.

  • The schedules have been reviewed by most of the board members so we believe them to be acceptable and error-free.

  • All BYE requests have been honored.

  • Some teams requested BYE dates during what is now tournament time.  We will do our best to work around church events but it may be impossible during tournament time.

  • There are some Saturdays where it is extremely difficult to put enough time between the Men's and Women's teams from the same church so that child care issues will be minimized.  However, as far as we can see there are only two Saturdays where this is a large issue.

  • Schedules *could* change in the next two - three days as coaches review the schedule and notice any mistakes that were missed in review.  If so, we will send e-mail notification to everyone on the e-mail list.

We combined the bulk of the Men's teams into one pool of "B" teams and then split that pool into two halves which we believe to be equally split.  Each B team will play each team in their half twice and two teams from the other half once.  There are five men's C teams.  Each C team will play each other C team three times.

Once the season is complete, we will make adjustments, if necessary, in separating teams for tournament play.

Friday, February 13, 2010

PLEASE call Tom Pizarro to let him know if you are planning on participating in the Spring if you did not make it to today's coach's meeting due to the weather.

2010 Spring Coach's Meeting

The Spring BAU coach's meeting(s) will be held on Saturday, February 13.  A few notes:

  1. The adult meeting will be at Cornerstone Baptist and it will begin promptly @ 10:00a.m. and end before 11:00.

  2. I would like to have the Youth meeting separately prior to the adult meeting @ 9:30a.m.

  3. The field locations are TBD.  We are currently working with the Parks & Recreation staff and the umpire crew to determine locations.  The team entry fee is expected to remain @ $335.00.

  4. The actual entry fee deadline will be March 6, 2010.  This will give us plenty of time to properly schedule the Spring season and publish the schedules at least a week in advance so that you, in turn, can plan for the season.

  5. The Youth will be playing games at Gate City Baptist on Saturday mornings. The youth season will begin on Saturday, March 27, 2010.  All youth coaches MUST ATTEND the coach's meeting.

  6. The Adult games will begin on Friday, March 26, 2010
