Spring Wrap-up / Fall kick-off coach's meeting

The Spring wrap-up up and Fall kick-off coach's meeting has been scheduled for 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Cornerstone Baptist Church.  (Directions below) For teams wishing to participate in Fall CO-Ed or Wood Bat softball the meeting is MANDATORY.  This is so that we can appropriately plan for scheduling of umpires and fields and reduce the "last minute" scheduling which produces errors and re-worked schedules.

Spring wrap-up
If you participated in any of the Spring leagues, please make every attempt to attend the meeting.  Why?  Because 1) We will be handing out the award certificates for regular season and tournament 1st & 2nd place finishers; and 2) We need to get you feedback on the Spring season while it is fresh in your mind so the BAU board can work on improving any shortcomings in the offseason.  The Spring '10 coach's meeting is too late for us to find out about any problems you may have encountered in the Spring season.

It is our intent to have the Spring wrap-up portion of the meeting completed in 30 minutes or less.

Fall kickoff
We will be offering Co-Ed and Men's Wood Bat leagues in the Fall.  While the rules have not yet been reviewed for the '09 season the only anticipated rules changes will be that we are allowing teams to use their own wood bats rather than requiring them to use the ones provided by the league.  The Co-Ed and Wood Bat rules can be found on the Documents and Setting page.

  • The team entry fee for each league will be $250.00 per team.

  • If there are 5 teams in either league the season will be 8 games in length, otherwise the season will be 10 games in length.

  • Both leagues use the same balls as the Spring season.  Balls will be available for purchase at the coach's meeting for $36.50 per dozen or $18.25 per 1/2 dozen.

  • The field for play has not yet been assigned.

Contact Tom Pizarro or Kevin Caviness with questions.

Monday, June 15 (12:30  P.M.)

The tournament schedules have been updated to reflect a rain contingency plan.  Please contact Tom Pizarro A.S.A.P. if anything looks incorrect in the schedule.  Tom is responsible for keeping the published documents on the website accurate:

  1. The published contingency plan as documented in the schedules applies only if all games on Friday get rained out and we can play on Saturday.

  2. In the event that the entire weekend gets rained out all games will move to 6/26 & 6/26 at the same times and fields as this weekend.

  3. In the event that some games get completed on Friday, June 19 and later games get rained out then schedules will have to be communicated on Friday night once we know how many games remain.  In general, most of the games have to be played "in sequence" so, wherever we leave of on Friday night we'll pick back up on Saturday beginning @ 6:00.  But, pay attention to the fields.  The Women's A and Men's B will likely change fields on Saturday in the event of rain on Friday.

  4. We avoided scheduling any more 5:00 games on Saturday in the contingency plans.  This is for three reasons.  First, the 5:00 games have presented a problem for some teams who have folks that work on Saturday.  Second, the remaining games in each league include championship games which means no time limit.  Those games tend to extend beyond 55 minutes.  On top of that, tournament games cannot end in a tie so there is every possibility that early games could go over the 55 minute time limit, too.  So, keeping on schedule and getting the late games completed at a reasonable hour can be challenging if we schedule 5 games.  Third, it is unreasonable to ask a team to play more than 3 games in a night if it is at all avoidable.  In some cases, beginning at 5:00 would mean a team could potentially be at the field from 5:00 until 11:00.

  5. In the contingency plan all of the "if" / "rematch" championship games have been scheduled, as needed, for Friday, June 26 at Gate City.  The reasons for this are tied to those in #4, above, since trying to squeeze these games in would mean starting @ 5:00 at every field, having two "no time limit" games scheduled and the potential for a team having to play 4 games in a night.  HOWEVER, if a portion of the Friday night games get played and the later games get rained out then there are less games to play on Saturday and the likelihood increases that we can finish up all tournament games, including the "if/rematch" games on Saturday.

  6. All of that said, here is the contingency plan in place in the event of rain on Friday (detailed game times can be found in the tournament schedule):

     Women's A:
If the games on Friday night are rained out the the Women's A tournament will be moved to Revolution Field and games will begin @ 7:00 P.M on Saturday.  If the Men's C game on Friday night @ 8:30 is completed and there is no need for the Men's C "rematch" then the Women's A will continue on Saturday @ 6:00 P.M.  Otherwise, the Women's A will begin at 7:00 following the Men's C championship game.

    Women's B:
If the games on Friday night are rained out then the Women's B tournament will continue at Gate City Field beginning @ 6:00 PM on Saturday.  Of course, exactly which games are played at what hour depends on how many games are completed on Friday.  However, the brackets show a schedule for games in the event that all Friday games are cancelled.  If at least one game is completed on Friday then the remaining games will proceed on Saturday beginning @ 6:00 PM and we will play the "if" game on Saturday, if necessary.

    Men's B:
If the games on Friday night are rained out then the Men's B tournament will continue at Rankin Field beginning at 6:00 PM on Saturday.

    Men's C:
If the 8:30 championship game gets rained out, it will be played at 6:00 PM at Revolution on Saturday (the "rematch" game would be played the following Friday, if necessary).  If the 8:30 championship game is completed and the "rematch" game is necessary but can't be played on Friday due to rain then the "rematch" game will be played on Saturday at Revolution at 6:00 P.M.  If enough games from other divisions are played on Friday night then we will make every effort to find room on some field to play both potential games on Saturday.

Sunday, June 14 (6:15 P.M.)

All tournament brackets have been updated and published.  An e-mail will be sent out to remaining teams containing rain contingency plans for what happens on Saturday if games get rained out on Friday.

The Women's A tournament schedule has been corrected..  On Saturday, June 20 the women's games are supposed to start @ 5:00 p.m. so that the women's B championship game can begin on time @ 8:00 p.m.

Monday, June 8 (1:00 P.M.)

This is an update to last night's posting.  The men's B and C games on Revolution for Saturday, June 13 have been modified.  Please check the newly published schedules.

The Men's A games on Rankin on Saturday, June 13 have been also moved back 1/2 hour on the NON-RAIN schedule.  In the event of rain, the Men's A games will still begin @ 7:00 at Rankin on Saturday, June 13.

This represents the final change to the tournament schedules.  The only event that will change tournament schedules from this point forward is rain.  We apologize if this is an inconvenience to you.  But, because of the sequential nature of tournament schedules, reworking game times becomes increasingly difficult after the first round of tournament games.

The results from the weekend's Women's games, women's regular season results corrections, women's standings and Men's A & C tournament results are posted.

All newly-revised schedules are also posted.  Please read the following carefully:

There is more rain in the forecast this week.  Obviously, if there are rained out games this weekend the remaining tournament games will need to me modified slightly since there is one less hour on Friday nights and one less field.  So, games don't simply "move back a day".  This means that, in the event of rain, you'll have to check back on the web site and get the new remaining schedules when they are posted.  In the event of rain there is a pre-published rain-out schedule for the weekend of June 12 & 13.  We are pre-publishing the rain contingency schedule so that you won't have to scramble on Friday to figure out when you play on Saturday.

At the conclusion of the weekends games, after we see how many games got played, all tournament schedules will be republished.

Below is the rain contingency plan for the weekend of June 12 & 13:

Women:
If Games are rained out on Friday, June 12 @ Gate City then all games move to Saturday, June 12 starting @ 6:00.  The Women's A & B tournaments will begin on Friday, June 19.

Men's A
If the Men's B games on Revolution are rained out on Friday, June 12 then all Men's A tournament games will be moved back an hour later in order to make room for a couple of B games at Rankin on Saturday, June 13.  So, if there is rain on Friday, Men's A games 4, 5 and 6 (the championship) will be played @ 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 at Rankin.  In the event the championship is not decided after game 6, the "if"/:rematch" game will be scheduled for the following Saturday at Revolution at 9:00.

Men's B
If the Men's B games on Revolution are rained out on Friday, June 12 then all four games will move to Saturday, June 13.  Games 1 & 2 will be played at Rankin at 5:00 and 6:00 respectively.  Games 3 & 4 will be played at Revolution at 5:00 and 6:00 respectively.

Men's C
Men's C only has games scheduled for Saturday.  Rain on Friday has no impact on the scheduled tournament games on Saturday.

Saturday, June 6 (11:00 P.M.)

Some corrections were made to the women's results and standings and are now re-posted.

The revised schedules will be posted as soon as possible.  However, due to the complexities of planning for various rain contingencies and the fact the the women's division has regular season games remaining that must be played it will likely take until Sunday evening to get the schedules reworked, reviewed and republished.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 (2:40 P.M.)

The men's A & C tournament game at Rankin WILL BE PLAYED tonight at Rankin field.  Please show up for your scheduled game.

The women's games at Gate City WILL BE PLAYED tonight as scheduled.  Please show up for your scheduled game.

The Men's C tournament games for the entire weekend have been reschedule to next weekend.  No games will be played at Revolution field tonight.

All schedules will be updated and re-posted this evening.

Friday, June 5, 2009 (11:30 a.m.)

ALL BAU GAMES FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 5 HAVE BEEN POSTPONED.

ALL GAMES AT REVOLUTION FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY HAVE BEEN POSTPONED.

Rain

Men
After reviewing the field conditions at Revolution today coupled with the additional rain this evening we have decided to postpone the Men's B tournament games until Saturday.  We will make a decision regarding whether we can play on Saturday tomorrow afternoon after consulting with the City of Greensboro field maintenance staff.  Unless notified, be prepared to play on Saturday.

No other men's tournament games are affected at this time.

Revised tournament schedules have been posted on shedules page.

Women
No decision has been made regarding Gate City field.  Unless otherwise notified, be prepared to play games on Friday as scheduled.  If rain does prevent play on Friday, rainout games from Friday will be played the following Friday (June 12). Saturday's games will be played as scheduled.  Rain for the whole weekend will push everything back one week.

Clarification for Women's Tournament Breakdown
The women's division will be divided into two 4-team tournaments based on the final standings.  The suggested breakdowns published earlier were not final.  Once the final weekend is complete we will fill in the women's A bracket with the top 4 teams and the women's B bracket with the bottom 4 teams.

Congratulations to Gate City Baptist Youth who won the youth tournament on Saturday.  Way to go, Gate City!!

Sunday, May 31, 2009

The women's game between Lawndale and Westover that was rained out on Friday, March 29 has been rescheduled for Friday, June 5 at 9:30 at Gate City.

The Men's tournament brackets have been posted.

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Due to the extremely poor condition of Revolution field we will not be able to play any games at Revolution field on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30.  That means that the Men's B games on Friday and the Men's C games on Saturday will not be played this weekend.  ALL OTHER GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AS SCHEDULED unless more poor weather occurs.  The women's game between Lawndale and Westover will likely be rescheduled.  A decision regarding the rescheduling of Men's games will be made after the conclusion of the weekend depending on the condition of the other fields and how many other games get rained out.

As of today, if only the games at Revolution are missed the likely course of action is to forgo rescheduling the men's games and begin the tournaments as scheduled on Friday, June 5.

Saturday, May 23, 2009

Women's Division
The BAU Chairman and Women's director have decided to forgo rescheduling the four women's games that were rained out on Saturday, May 9 at Gate City.  The Women's schedule is already a week behind the men and we do not want to risk playing all the way until the end of June if we have more rain.  Since all eight women's teams are effected equally by losing one regular season game the schedules remain balanced.

Adult Tournament Brackets and Schedules
The 2009 Spring adult tournament brackets have been posted.  The actual seeds will be filled in after the conclusion of the regular season in the respective divisions.  Please read on...

The Men's tournaments will begin on Friday, June 5.  The Women's tournaments will begin on Friday, June 12.  The Men will play at Revolution and Rankin.  The Women will play all games at Gate City.

In an effort to create an appropriately competitive tournament for all teams the BAU is dividing the men's and women's tournaments into extra divisions based on the regular season results as follows:

(All teams listed in alphabetical order)

Men's A Men's B Men's C

Friday, April 17, 2009

The BAU Youth schedules have been revised and republished after removing Northside from the remainder of the schedule.  We have revised the standings to reflect a 7-team league with each team playing 6 games.  All results involving Northside forfeits have been removed.

The schedules have not be dramatically altered.  We essentially removed the remaining three Northside games on the remaining three weekends and "squeezed" the schedule together so there would be no gap.  Please make a note of the new schedule.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Results from the weekend games have been posted.  Please contact the chairman (chairman@bausoftball.com)  if you see any errors.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Please see the Lost & Found page concerning sunglasses lost at Revolution on Friday night.

Also, please check the Lost & Found containers at Gate City for a collection of items that have been left at Gate City Field over the past few seasons.  You or your children may have lost items waiting for you.

Sunday, March 29, 2009

We have received no reports of any errors in the posted Adult schedules.  Thank you for you patience as we worked through a challenging scheduling process.

Saturday, March 28, 2009

All adult Men's and Women's schedules have been published on the schedules page.  Please call Kevin Caviness A.S.A.P. if you discover an error in any of the schedules.  To be safe, you may want to wait until Monday to print out the schedules so that, if there are errors, we can correct them before you distribute them.

The Youth schedules have also been re-posted with the games rained out from today moved to the end of the schedule.  If we get any more rain then we may be forced to play on Easter Saturday OR Memorial Day weekend.

A note about the Men's Divisions:
Three of last Season's "A" division teams left our league.  Additionally, another of the "A" teams was due to be dropped to "B" after winning only 3 games last season bringing the total lost "A" teams to 4.  As a result, there is no A division.  The remaining 4 "A" teams were combined with the better "B" teams into a single "B" division.  So, the "B" division is essentially 1/2 "A" and 1/2 "B".  The remaining teams remain in the "C" division.

Friday, March 27, 2009

The youth games schedules for Saturday, March 28 have been POSTPONED.  The filed is already very wet and it won't get any more dry by morning.

The adult schedules are nearing completion.  We appreciate your patience.  The scheduling process has been especially challenging this Spring due to a number of factors.  Expect to see information regarding the adult schedule lat this evening or early tomorrow morning.

Adult Schedules in progress
We are working on completing the Adult Men's and Women's schedules.  The firsts games will be on Friday April 3rd, 2009.  If you would like to be informed when schedules are published, submit a request to be added to our mailing list by filling out the form on the E-Mail List page.

Sunday, March 22, 2009 (PM)

Youth Schedule Re-published
The 2009 Spring BAU Youth schedule has been re-published.   This represents the final schedule and includes all requested BYE dates.  There are 8 youth teams participating so the schedule is extremely full.  At present, there are no games scheduled for Easter weekend (4/11) or Memorial Day Weekend (5/23). However, due to graduation, we may be forced to complete the Youth tournament on Memorial Day weekend.  If the majority of the Youth coaches believe that playing in June will not be a problem then we may be able to avoid playing that weekend.  If it rains early in the season then we will either have to reschedule games on Easter weekend or play tournament games on Memorial Day weekend.

Sunday, March 22, 2009 (AM)

Youth Schedule Removed
The 2008 BAU Youth League schedule that was published early this morning had errors.  New schedules will be published this afternoon.

2009 Spring Coach's Meeting Update

The location for the Spring coach's meeting has been confirmed.  We will be meeting at Lawndale Baptist in RM 236 which is adjacent to the GYM in their FLC.

The BAU-sanctioned softballs will be available at the meeting for purchase.  We will again be selling them AT COST which is not expected to be more than last year's cost ($40 per doz) and could be less.  The precise cost will be announced and published here once the order has been placed.

2008 Spring Coach's Meeting

The Spring BAU coach's meeting will be held on March 14.  A few notes:

  1. We expect the fees to remain the same.  Adult teams = $335, Youth teams = $100.  If it is possible, please bring the entry fee check with you to the coach's meeting.  This will assist us in preparing for the season and reserving the appropriate amount of fields.

  2. The actual entry fee deadline will be March 21, 2009.

  3. The Youth will be playing games at Gate City Baptist on Saturday mornings. The youth season will begin on Saturday, March 28, 2009.  All youth coaches MUST ATTEND the coach's meeting.

  4. The Adult games will begin on Friday, April 3.

  5. We are currently attempting to negotiate the appropriate amount of field usage for adult teams.  Since we have had a decreasing amount of participation each Spring, we are making our best attempt to avoid over-committing on field rental with the City of Greensboro.  This is the reason for the delayed start date for the adults AND the request for money to be brought to the coach's meeting, if possible.

Coach's meeting
Date:   Saturday, March 14
Time:   10:00 a.m.
Where: Lawndale Baptist, RM 236

The agenda for the meeting will be posted shortly.

The Meeting is MANDATORY for all teams intending to participate in Men's Women's or Youth play in the BAU Spring season.  if your coach cannot attend, send a representative.
