Congratulations to Living Waters for winning the regular season and tournament Co-Ed championships.  Thanks to everyone!  We'll see you in the Spring.

Friday, October  16, 2009

All games will be played as scheduled tonight.  Concessions will be open.

Monday, October 5, 2009

The Co-Ed schedule and tournament brackets have been updated.  There was an unfortunate "lights out" incident in the late game last Saturday so that game will finish up @ 6:00 on Friday.  The game is tied in the bottom of the last inning with bases loaded, one out and full count.  Unfortunately, it will be along night for those two teams as the losers play potentially two more games @ 6:30 and 7:30 and the winners play again @ 8:30 (and possibly 9:30, too).

Co-Ed Regular Season
The Co-ed schedules have been updated and the tournament schedule has been filled in based on the results as of today.  I rescheduled rain-outs (originally on 8/22, then 9/18) for this Friday, Oct 2.  Everyone should have been prepared to play both nights this weekend because of tournament play so this should not represent a big change for anyone.

In the end, it looks like we'll only lose one game. There are five un-played games and only four game times.  So, I made the decision as to which game to forego based on giving teams an opportunity to play each other at least once in the regular season.  The one game that isn't rescheduled is a "rematch" which is why it was left out.

Co-Ed Tournament
The tournament is now set to start on Saturday, Oct. 3.  The seeding is based on the standings as of today.  Since Hines Chapel and Lawndale #3 have not had the opportunity to play the tie-breaker was basically a coin flip.

The schedule has been slightly modified/condensed to get more games in earlier in the tournament schedule and allow more teams to potentially end their season a week earlier.  Also, I am trying to avoid, if at all possible, having the season go another week longer, in case of rain.  So, condensing the schedule (putting 4 games per night on the schedule) also makes room for any rainouts without pushing the tournament to another weekend.  Also, I moved the lat day of the tournament to Friday, 10/16 from Sat 10/17.  Again, this is to make room for rain make-up, contingency for the championship rematch and be fair to umpires so that there are no two-game dates on the schedule.

Please address any questions or concerns to me (Tom Pizarro) as I took action on my own in order to get these schedules out quickly.

Gate City field was checked at 1:30 P.M. and the filed was in excellent condition.  It was very dry, as was the dugout and surrounding area.  Unless you are contacted by a BAU representative or your coach, please report to the field for your scheduled game.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Please see the updated co-ed schedule.  The game times changed slightly so that we could take advantage of a forfeited game and squeeze one of the rain-outs in.

Saturday, September 19, 2009

All games will be played today.  There will be no 6:00 game as Lawndale #2 has forfeited.  The other three games will be played unless it rains more tonight - in which case the decision will be made at the field.  So, please make it to the field on time for your scheduled game.

Friday, September 18, 2009

After checking the field several times today we have decided that the risk of injury s too great to try to play games this evening.  While it isn’t raining much and there is a small break this afternoon, more rain is expected throughout the evening and the field is pretty much saturated.

We are hoping that by staying off the field tonight it will make it more possible to get the field ready for play tomorrow evening.  However, significant rain overnight and tomorrow morning puts tomorrow evening’s games in serious jeopardy.

We will try to make a call by 2:00 tomorrow regarding the Saturday games.

If we lose all 8 games this weekend we will do our best to reschedule them all.  However, if we have to lose some games we will ensure no team loses more than one game.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Please note the following schedule changes in the co-ed league:

The championship tournament games have been moved from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, October 17.  This is due to a late-breaking conflict with the field on the 10th.  Gate City needs the field for a church-wide anniversary celebration.

Also, nn Saturday, September 26, there will be NO CONCESSIONS and NO BATHROOMS at the field.  This is because the picnic area is going to be repaired and painted on that Saturday, including the bathrooms.  Please make a note of this exception.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

All Co-Ed games for Saturday, August 22, 2009 have been POSTPONED due to pending rain and existing wet field conditions.

Wood Bat
The Wood Bat schedule was posted yesterday.  Based on the 4-team league there will be 6 regular season games followed by a double-elimination tournament.  The Wood Bat entry fee has been reduced to $230.00 to account for the reduced schedule.

Co-Ed
After reviewing the scheduling it looks like our best option is to go with an 8-game schedule (with a double-elimination tournament) in the Fall.  A 10-game tournament put regular season games scheduled until October 10.  Any rain at all would force us to play on several Fridays or deep into November which I don’t think we want to do.  With an 8-game schedule each team is guaranteed at least 10 games (including the tournament) so we believe this should yield a more manageable and fun season for everyone.  And, to be honest, the expenses are also extremely unforgiving with a total of another 7 games on the schedule, too.

The 8-game schedule has been posted.  The season will begin on August 8 since only one team team was available to play on August 1.

Wood Bat
We are trying very hard to piece together a 4th wood bat team.  For the past 3 seasons we have played Wood Bat on Monday evenings in the Summer.  Last season we had 5 teams.  This season we only had 3 teams commit.  We decided to try to move the season back some and make it a more full Fall season.  However, in doing so, Monday nights became less attractive and some of the teams that have participated lost the ability to have full participation.  There were several churches that indicated they had 2-3 people who here interested and would like to join a team (Lawndale, Lebanon, Hickory Grove, Life Community, Westover).  We believe there are enough to put together a team from the “pool” of interest.  You may have members of your church that are in the same boat.  Please, let me know if you would like to play, even if there is just one.  At this point we are starting the Wood Bat season on Monday, August 10 and it will likely run for 4-5 Mondays plus a tournament which can be largely finished in a single night.  So, the commitment is small and you don’t lose a weekend evening and the games are played at Gate City.  Everyone who has participated has loved it.  We are trying to get a team put together this week so please reply to me or Danny if you have interest by Wednesday, July 29.

Sunday, July 26. 2009

The co-ed season will not begin until Saturday, August 8.  Schedules will be posted on Monday evening, July 27.

WOOD BAT
At this time there are only 3 full teams signed up for Wood-Bat.  However, here were numerous individuals who expressed interest in playing but did not have a team.  We are pretty sure there is enough interest to make a 4th team and complete a 6-game season in 5 Monday evenings.  If you are interested in playing Wood Bat softball, please contact Tom Pizarro (tpizarro@ecsginc.com, 254-8748)  or Dan Tingler (dtingler@triad.rr.com, 339-0283)

Monday, July 6 (1:00  P.M.)

Spring Wrap-up / Fall kick-off coach's meeting

The Spring wrap-up up and Fall kick-off coach's meeting has been scheduled for 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Cornerstone Baptist Church.  (Directions below) For teams wishing to participate in Fall CO-Ed or Wood Bat softball the meeting is MANDATORY.  This is so that we can appropriately plan for scheduling of umpires and fields and reduce the "last minute" scheduling which produces errors and re-worked schedules.

Spring wrap-up
If you participated in any of the Spring leagues, please make every attempt to attend the meeting.  Why?  Because 1) We will be handing out the award certificates for regular season and tournament 1st & 2nd place finishers; and 2) We need to get you feedback on the Spring season while it is fresh in your mind so the BAU board can work on improving any shortcomings in the offseason.  The Spring '10 coach's meeting is too late for us to find out about any problems you may have encountered in the Spring season.

It is our intent to have the Spring wrap-up portion of the meeting completed in 30 minutes or less.

Fall kickoff
We will be offering Co-Ed and Men's Wood Bat leagues in the Fall.  While the rules have not yet been reviewed for the '09 season the only anticipated rules changes will be that we are allowing teams to use their own wood bats rather than requiring them to use the ones provided by the league.  The Co-Ed and Wood Bat rules can be found on the Documents and Setting page.

  • The team entry fee for each league will be $250.00 per team.

  • If there are 5 teams in either league the season will be 8 games in length, otherwise the season will be 10 games in length.

  • Both leagues use the same balls as the Spring season.  Balls will be available for purchase at the coach's meeting for $36.50 per dozen or $18.25 per 1/2 dozen.

  • The field for play has not yet been assigned.

Contact Tom Pizarro or Kevin Caviness with questions.
