The Men's B final results, standings and tournament brackets have been posted.  Please let Jimmy Jackson know A.S.A.P. if there is an error.

Since there are still several games left on the final weekend of the Women's regular season that make a difference to the final standings the Women's tournament brackets will be posted as soon as possible after the conclusion of the games on 5/30 and 5/31.  Both the Women's A (Teams 1-5) and Women's B (Teams 6-11) tournaments will begin on Friday, June 6.  In all likelihood all women's teams will play at least one game each day (June 6 and June 7) so plan accordingly.

Youth Tournament
After consulting with coaches the following tie-breaker evaluation was made to seed the 4, 5 and 6 seeds:

Cornerstone Red defeated Northside by 3 runs
Northside defeated Clifton Rd by 1 run
Clifton Rd. defeated Cornerstone Red by 1 run.

Based on these results the total run differential for each team based on the games with other teams in the tie:

Cornerstone Red +2
Clifton Rd  0
Northside -2

So, Cornerstone Red gets the 4 seed, Clifton Rd the 5 and Northside the 6 seed.

Tournament Schedules
The Men's A bracket has been updated with the tournament seeds.  The Youth Tournament brackets have been posted but cannot be completed seeded until a three-way tied for 4th is broken.  After consulting with coaches tomorrow the final Youth brackets will be posted.

The Men's B tournament will begin on Friday, May 30.  The Men's B tournament schedule will be posted no later than Monday May 19.

The Women's League will be divided into two divisions for tournament play.  The "A" Division will be the top five teams and the "B" division will be the bottom six teams.  Both Women's tournaments will begin on Friday, June 6.  It is possible that the Women's A tournament will be played at Rankin, depending on whether the Men's A tournament is completed on-schedule.  Both Women's tournament schedules will be posted no later than Monday, June 2.

Regular season rainouts will not delay the tournament from here on out.  The tournament will proceed as scheduled based on the games that were completed.  If games on 5/16 and 5./17 are rained out they will be rescheduled for 5/23 and 5/24.

The latest results have been added to the schedules and standings.  A usual, if you see errors, let us know A.S.A.P.

New Schedules
New Schedules have been posted which include all rescheduled games.  Please take careful note to the end of the schedule where the rain-outs were rescheduled.  Also, in the Men's A division two games will be played on Revolution Field on 5/10.  It was the only way to get all of the games rescheduled and still give the tournament scheduling a fair chance to start the following weekend.

Softball Pickup
Very few coaches have made arrangements to pick up softballs from Jimmy Jackson.  Please contact Jimmy A.S.A.P. to make arrangements.  To assist you, Jimmy has agreed to be at Lawndale Baptist from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22 to distribute balls.  If you do not make arrangements with Jimmy or pick up your balls on Saturday, you may be in danger of having no official balls to play your first weekend.
No non-BAU softballs will be allowed in BAU play.  No exceptions.  No grace period.

Youth Coaches-If you wish to pick up your team's softballs on the first Saturday of play you need to contact the Youth Director, Tom Pizarro.  If you do not contact Tom you'll need to get your softballs directly from Jimmy Jackson as they will not be available at the field on the first day of play.

Schedules
Schedules were posted on the BAU website last Saturday.

Rosters
Make sure your rosters are signed by all players and your Pastor.  Make sure the player's member status is noted appropriately ('*' for non-members, 'S' for supplementing players from another church).  Make sure your supplementing players have a Supplementing Church membership form properly filled out and signed by their pastor.  Also make sure that all rosters are turned in with the Church Sponsorship form properly signed by your Pastor.  Without all forms your roster is incomplete and you will forfeit games until all of the forms are turned in.  If your church has multiple teams and only one Pastor signs all rosters then only one Church Sponsorship form is necessary.  If different rosters are signed by different Pastors then a Church Sponsorship form needs to be delivered for each signing Pastor.

Saturday, March 15, 2008

The BAU Spring schedules have been posted on the schedules page.  Please let us know A.S.A.P. if you see any mistakes.

Thursday, March 13, 2008

The BAU softballs have arrived at Lawndale Baptist.  Please contact Jimmy Jackson at Lawndale Baptist (288-3824) to arrange pickup of your softballs.  As a reminder, only BAU softballs purchased from the BAU will be allowed this season.  No exceptions.  Balls are $10 for 3, $40 per dozen which is exactly the cost the BAU paid for them and much cheaper than most of us could get individually.

Spring Softball ready to go
Coaches get your paperwork ready for the new season.  A schedule of fees and deadlines can be found in the meeting agenda.

There are several changes that were introduced and confirmed by a vote of the coaches at the Spring meeting.

1)  A new Church Sponsorship form is now REQUIRED to be turned in along with your roster forms.  It is to be signed by the Pastor of the sponsoring church that signs the roster.  If one Pastor signs all rosters for your church then only one form is required.  If you have two or three teams and a different Pastor signs each roster then you will need to turn in a completed sponsorship form for each different signature.  The form can be found on the web site.

2) The coaches voted at the Spring coach's meeting to adopt a different ball standard than the city and the NSA.  The main reasons for this is to be able to have some semblance of consistency from year to year and to ensure the safety of the players in the BAU.  Additionally, each team is required to purchase balls supplied by the BAU. The BAU will use this specification as its standard indefinitely, regardless of the NSA and City of Greensboro equipment standards.  The BAU will furnish the balls at cost.  The cost of the balls will be $40.00 per dozen, which is a significant savings over the generally available retail price.  For the sake of simplicity, balls will be sold in lots a little as 3 for $10.00.  So, you can purchase, 3, 6, a dozen or a couple dozen balls but the balls MUST be furnished by the BAU.  The BAU ball will be stamped from the distributor with "BAU".  No other ball will be allowed in BAU play other than those supplied by the BAU bearing the BAU stamp.  The ball we agreed to use is a COR .44, 375 lbs. compression ball.  This is the same specifications as the ASA balls we used prior to the City of Greensboro adopting the NSA rules.  (FYI - for those of you who play softball in the City, the NSA COR .44, 525 lbs. balls will not be allowed in the city this season.  The NSA COR .44, 400 lbs. ball will be used in the city).  When you turn in your entry fee, please indicate how many balls you wish to purchase.  Balls will not be generally available at concession stands, etc. so you'll need to arrange purchase of the balls through Jimmy Jackson and the Board of Directors.

3) Youth coaches:  This season the BAU is restricting the number of boys who participate in school baseball to 5 or less per team.  We're not sure any team has every had more than a couple and most have none but we're trying to stay ahead of the curve.  Many other church-based leagues allow absolutely no AAU or school players so we are trying to accommodate unity and participation in church youth groups with a balance of the recreational spirit of youth softball.
